Keyword Insights Overview

Keyword Insights helps you discover which keywords are worth targeting by providing data-driven metrics that show how popular and competitive different keyword choices are.

It not only relies on Chrome Web Store search results to help you analyze extension competition under each keyword, but also integrates search volume data from external search engines to map keyword search popularity. In the absence of official keyword search volume data from the Chrome Web Store, it provides an effective reference indicator. By combining these two dimensions, Keyword Insights delivers a more complete “keyword profile.”

Keyword Insights

Search Results

Keyword Insights retrieves and analyzes the top 50 search results for a target keyword in the Chrome Web Store to highlight key indicators of competitiveness:

  • Average rating
  • Total number of reviews
  • Number of Featured
  • Number of Established Publisher

Search Results

These metrics give you a clear overview of the competitive landscape, helping you avoid investing blindly in keywords dominated by established players.

Search Popularity

Keyword Insights integrates search volume data from external search engines to map keyword search popularity.

Search Popularity

  • Search Popularity - The search volume of the keyword in external search engines in the past seven days.
  • Trends - The trends of the keyword in external search engines in the past seven weeks.
  • Region - The search volume of this keyword in external search engines in several major countries/regions over the past seven days.

By combining Search Popularity, Trends, and Region, you can gain a clearer understanding of your target users' search habits. Search Popularity helps you determine whether a keyword has sufficient demand, trend analysis reveals whether interest is growing, stable, or declining over time, and regional insights show which countries or markets drive the most searches.

TOP 10 Extensions

The first milestone in improving your Chrome Web Store search ranking is breaking into the first page of results—the top 10 positions. To help you quickly understand the competitiveness of the first page for your target keyword, Extension Ranker provides a TOP 10 Extensions module in Keyword Insights.

TOP 10 Extensions

Competition

The competition level reflects how difficult it is to enter the top 10 for a given keyword. The higher the competition, the harder it is to achieve a strong ranking.

Competition is assessed based on the overall strength of the top 10 extensions, considering:

  • The user base of the top 10 extensions
  • The average ratings of the top 10 extensions
  • The number of reviews among the top 10 extensions
  • The number of extensions in the top 10 with Featured or Established Publisher badges

Competition helps you quickly determine whether a keyword is worth investing in:

  • High competition usually means the keyword is dominated by large or mature extensions. Breaking in requires a longer timeline and a differentiated strategy.
  • Medium competition suggests there are still openings, but you'll need strong listing optimization and positive user feedback to stand out.
  • Low competition indicates that current competitors are relatively weak, making it easier for new extensions to gain visibility through precise positioning.

Understanding competition helps you avoid wasting resources on “crowded” keywords while prioritizing those with real demand and realistic entry points—enabling you to improve rankings and grow installs more efficiently.

Top 10 Performance Summary

Within Keyword Insights, the system aggregates data from the top 10 extensions ranking under a target keyword and generates a set of summary metrics that reflect the overall competitiveness of that keyword.

  • Top 10 Users: The combined user count of the top 10 extensions, showing the overall market size.
  • Ave. Rating: The average rating of the top 10 extensions, indicating overall user satisfaction in this category.
  • Reviews: The total number of reviews for the top 10 extensions, representing user engagement and community feedback.
  • Featured: The number of extensions in the top 10 that are marked as Featured by the Chrome Web Store.
  • EP (Established Publisher): The number of extensions in the top 10 published by verified or established publishers.

These summary metrics provide a "market snapshot" for a keyword, helping you quickly determine:

  • Whether the market is already dominated by established players (large user bases, high ratings, significant review counts, and many Featured/EP extensions).
  • Whether opportunities still exist (smaller user bases, lower ratings, fewer reviews, and limited presence of established publishers).

By interpreting the Top 10 Performance Summary, you can make more informed keyword strategy decisions—rather than blindly chasing popular terms.

TOP 10 Detail

The TOP 10 Detail view displays the full breakdown of the top 10 extensions for a keyword. This gives you a clear picture of the leading competitors and helps you assess whether there's room to enter the market.

By analyzing the TOP 10 Detail, you can:

  • Identify key competitors: See exactly who is ranking at the top for your keyword.
  • Analyze strengths and weaknesses: For example, an extension with a large user base but low rating may signal unmet user needs.
  • Spot market gaps: Detect weak points in high-demand keywords, such as extensions with poor ratings or low review counts.
  • Develop a differentiation strategy: Learn from top listings while avoiding their shortcomings to highlight your own strengths.

Compared with the Top 10 Performance Summary, this module provides a more detailed competitor profile—helping you understand the keyword landscape from both a macro and micro perspective.
