Ranking Audit Overview
Ranking Audit measures your extension's listing against the top competitors for a single keyword in a supported language. It tells you in plain language what's holding you back, what your realistic rank ceiling is if you optimize fully, and which fixes will move the needle.
Once you confirm the extension, the language of the listing, and enter your target keyword, the audit report opens with the following sections:
Audit Context
The header bar shows the audit's locked context — target keyword, market, and the extension version that was audited. If your extension has been updated since, the bar flags that the audit reflects an older version so you know whether to re-run.
Bottom Line
The Bottom Line card distills the entire audit into a single takeaway sentence and pairs it with the two most important numbers:
- Current rank — your position in the analyzed competitor set right now.
- Predicted rank — the rank our model expects you to reach if you fully optimize your listing, provided for reference.
A primary CTA — usually Open in Listing Editor — sits next to the takeaway, putting the most useful next action one click away.
Diagnosis
The Diagnosis card visualizes your competitive position in two layers.
Quadrant view
The quadrant plots your extension on two axes:
- Listing strength (horizontal) — what you write on the listing page: Title, Summary, and Description. Fully under your control and editable any time inside Listing Editor.
- Authority strength (vertical) — signals from your user base and store standing: installs, ratings, reviews, and official Chrome Web Store badges. Slower to change; usually requires off-product effort over weeks or months.
Where you land tells you which lever to pull first.
Listing weak + Authority strong means you have a strong store presence but your listing is leaking visibility — editing will move the needle quickly.
Listing strong + Authority weak means your copy is already competitive and the bottleneck is reputation — focus on user growth and reviews instead. The other quadrants are mixed strategies.
5 ranking factors
Each factor is always expanded and scored as strong / ok / weak relative to the locked competitor set. Factors are grouped by which lever they belong to:
Listing — you can directly influence these by editing your listing (~45% combined weight)
- Title Strength (24%) — your title's keyword match vs the competitor set.
- Content Strength (21%) — description length, keyword frequency, and keyword position vs competitors.
Authority — these grow over time, not via editing (~53% combined weight)
- User Authority (37%) — total user count. The strongest market-presence signal.
- User Popularity (15%) — average rating, review count, and the interaction effect between them.
- Quality Signals (1%) — official CWS badges (Featured, Established Publisher).
Recommendations
Recommendations are split into two groups so you know which fixes belong in the editor and which require external action:
- Editable (Listing) — fixes you can apply inside Listing Editor right now: add missing keywords to your title, lift keyword frequency in the description, restructure content. Each item shows priority, expected impact, and links straight to the editor.
- Authority — fixes that require manual CWS work: encourage more reviews, lift average rating, earn the Featured or Established Publisher badge, grow your user base. These can't be fixed by editing the listing.
Each recommendation includes its priority (high / medium / low) and expected impact (significant / moderate / slight) so you can sequence the work.
Competitor Comparison
The Top-10 reference list lays out the top-ranking competitors for your keyword side-by-side — user count, rating, review volume, and listing characteristics. Use it to spot patterns the leaders share, find gaps you can fill, and benchmark your own listing against the field.
